PLACE \ MEANT
PUBLIC RECEPTION: FRI JULY 10 | 6:00 - 8:00 PM
CONVERSATION WITH ARTISTS: FRI JULY 10 | 4:00 PM
Millbrook Arts Project presents PLACE | MEANT, an exhibition of artwork by Laura Cannamela, Monica Church, Elisa Lendvay, Susan Newmark, and Barbara Todd, curated by Sharon Bates.
Presented in conjunction with Making Meaning: A Collage Symposium at the Vassar Institute for the Liberal Arts, this exhibition brings together five artists whose collage-based practices investigate place, memory, and materiality. Through acts of collecting, layering, cutting, weaving, stitching, and assembling, fragments of the physical world are transformed into works that navigate both earthly and psychological terrain.
Whether rooted in the glacial landscapes of the Hudson Valley, the layered streets of Berlin and Brooklyn, or the quiet accumulation of color and material gathered over time, the exhibition considers place as something continually constructed—shaped by perception and the meanings we attach to the places we inhabit.
A conversation with artists Laura Cannamela, Monica Church, Elisa Lendvay, and Susan Newmark is scheduled for Friday, July 10th, at 4:00 pm.
All programs are free and located at the Millbrook Library, 3 Friendly Lane, Millbrook, NY.
